Portrait of a Student

While in Ecuador, we visited a rural school—the Gulahuayco girls' school—to learn how young girls were learning additional skills to provide income for themselves and their families. During the visit they showed us a number of the things they learned, including some of the crafts to make products for sale.

This was about creating opportunity for their independence and future, because the tendency is for girls to not get an education. This leaves them without a chance to earn their own income (and be stuck performing household chores).
