In terms of density, the spongy surface of dried iron ore tailings ranges from nearly liquid to solid. Unfortunately, all variations in between are visually similar. The way to find out whether you can walk on it is to simply try and hope it's not too deep. Sometimes that means you'll get a wet foot.
