A Private Dump

While I enjoy this image for its abstract textures, it fails in attempting to convey the scale of this structure so let me provide some reference. The large rectangular items are concrete shells slightly larger than standard 53-foot long transport trailers. It is quite literally a garbage dump with everything from paper files to office furniture and industrial equipment and is surrounded by a tailing pond on three sides.

The reason we arrived at this part of the site was due to historical satellite imagery which had shown this area as the source of an iron oxide stained stream (which was something we had sought out last year). Unfortunately we saw little of that on this visit and once again, the large-scale burning red-orange streams found in Ed Burtynsky's photos eluded us.
