Most mechanics have a "junk drawer" like this, keeping used nuts, bolts and what not, thinking it will save a trip to the store. Funny thing is, when the time comes that you need, say a bolt, and you dig through the drawer and finally find it, you look at it, see that it's rusted and the threads look bad, you toss it back in the drawer, and go buy a new one..
