Tunnel from 18 to 19

September 1, 2004

Underground steam tunnels connect many of the buildings at Whitby Psych. Without a flashlight, you see nothing - they are pitch black. This shot was a 15 second exposure and I used my flashlight to add extra illumination during the exposure. This section was wide enough to walk through fairly comfortably, but in some places they get narrow due to the steam pipes(ie: 1.5' wide).

I love secret passage ways. It's like an escape tunnel almost.

its funny how sneering and grusome a space like a tunnel can be.
even when its meant to be so useful, steam pipes, harmless!

I got a picture of me standing in this exact place.! I go to the psyche like at least once or twice a week, soo much to see but i never go during the day. Youd be suprised wut the camera can pick up, i have some pretty convincing images!

it seems most of these tunnels have been filled in or concrete shut.

i've been to the psyche a few times, but we never managed to get into the tunnels. i still haven't developed my pictures from my last visit but i'm disappointed that i won't get a chance to take anymore now that most of the buildings have been torn down. it's also a shame that the place was so vandalised. i only brought my camera once because we usually just ended up running away from cops looking for other dumb kids. i wish i could have seen the inside of a tunnel or two! great shot though, i never imagined the colour would be like that.
