The photos are all over the map these days...
On a return visit to the Richard L. Hearn Generating Station, I decided to spend a bit more time than usual in the control room. This is one of the remaining log books chronicling the final days of the station. Regrettably I didn't flip through it or photograph any of the final entries. The book — and the station itself — now await the wrecking ball.

I photographed the exact same book, Mine was darker, and the persepctive was very different. This one is excellent though!
Love this and particularly the close side cropping and sense of balance. It almost has a kind of religious "ghost in the machine" feel to it with a tome in front of the machine "altar" ;-) The black shadows among the curved pages enhance the organic look of the book against the smooth industrial panel backdrop. Love it.
I think it is a really cool Pic! I've never worked in a control room so to speak but have always been in "awe" of those who did make it. Love the open book perspective shown from this angle. High tech for those days but still back up hard copy failsafe. Excellent shot!!!
After browsing continuously all the way back to May 2005, my eyes feel like they're going to fall out of their sockets. But regardless, I adore your work. Absolutely brilliant. This shot is no exception, I love the detail and roughness of the pages. Excellent work.
so strange to see so many switches and no computer.lol. have to say, you guys must have less vandelism up there. this is like something frozen in time. where i dwell, this would have been trashed along time ago. good to see that there are still places where the past can remain untouched.
I love the sort of surreal feel of the background compared to the ultra-crisp feel of the book. It is such a sensory sort of pic. I can sense the feel and smell of the paper. Are the entries in pencil in the beginning of the book?
You know the way to a bibliophile's heart, Kendall! The modern background contrasted with this GORGEOUS old book that looks like it could be 200 years old...I wouldn't be surprised to see pen-and-quill script in it, from the perspective you shot. Fabuous quintesential story.
Cool shot - love the contrast between the curling pages and the regimented control panel behind.
One of the station's electrical operators who sat at that desk when the station closed in 1983 owned a coffee shop. He used to say that he went to work at the station to relax. The job of working in the electrical control room was rather a quiet solitary one .. but some people like that sort of work.
awesome pic...more human feel to it than the rest of the million "abandoned building" ones
This picture is so cool looking. I really like the beat up pages.
The textures in this are delicious, and I really like the framing and shallow DOF. Nice job.
i dont no what it is about this pic but it just makes me whan look at it i love it so much
