Tyler, In Context

December 17, 2005

So this probably completes the shots of Tyler hanging around at the Don Valley Brickworks. It's intended to provide the context in which this was all occurring.

Also, bowing to popular demand, I updated yesterday's shot to include a 'blue-coloured silk version'.

WHOOO first one to comment!

I really adore this picture because i feel the atmosphere of the brick and the iorn and the strengh that man is giving twoards the silk. This is very good and very daring. I think i love this picture because i feel so much strengh and feeling. Also that blue silk just gives it that hint of color. The blue on that is fantastic. Great picture.I wish i was as althetic as this guy. Killer Pic Kendall.

The setting and the action make for a really interesting image. There is a great deal to view. Everything about this one works.

This is not the most artistic shot in this series of Tyler, but it is the most revealing of the elements being used. I was curious what he was securing the silk to & what the graffiti looked like in color as well. A few questions come to mind: How did Tyler get his start in Acrobatics? Does he perform with a dance troop? Are there other acrobats in Toronto?

Perhaps this is the closest we can get to a replacement for the former secret swing near spadina and queen...?

Ohhh, wonderful! This really shows thi dichotomy between Tyler's strength, yet he is so at ease in manyof the shots. This shows the contrasts between light and dark, old and new, black, white and color, the harsh rawnwss of the brick and iron and the softness of the silk. I love it! This series has beena real treat. Thanks!

Hey All! Thanks so much for all of your comments on Kendall's amazing photos! I really can't thank him enough. My website is being updated and I'll link to it once it's done. As for the questions...feel free to email me, but to respond to a few... "How did Tyler get his start in Acrobatics?" - I have a background in theatre and dance and thought this was a different way to combine the two. "Does he perform with a dance troop?" - I'm a solo aerialist so i'm not part of a troupe, per se. I perform at nightclubs and parties, etc. "Are there other acrobats in Toronto?" - YES! There are a good number of us, we all do different things. You can check out my agent's website at www.zerogravitycircus.com

Thanks again for all your great feedback!

I've really enjoyed this series. There are very few photos from the brickworks (or abandonments in general), including my own, that have any life in them. This was a spectacular, and incredibly original, break from the norm. Well done.

totally cool pictures--I love the combination of the person and the old building--it adds a personal interest to the abandoned look you always have, makes it more interesting.
