Hanging Around at the Brickworks

December 15, 2005

Another from the same series with Tyler...

I was going to pretend to say anything about the image... the pose doesn't have the elegance of yesterday's shot but I like the apparent relaxation in the arms (exhaustion?), combined with the knotted struggle to stay attached. All the repeating vertical elements — the beams continued by the blue silk — catch my eye as well.

Update: In case you're interested, there's a full gallery of photos from this location here: the Don Valley Brickworks. The photos of Tyler aren't there yet but will be at some point in the future.

Hmmm...maybe if he were facing the camera...

I like the repeating vertical lines contrasted against the many horizontal components: his arms, the brick pattern behind him, the walkway rails. Even with the right wall in perspective, there are very few dynamic diagonal elements. The horizontals are calm and stable, the verticals are more active: defying gravity. The tension between these elements says a lot about the state of your subject: all the work he's doing to look so calm, relaxed. If I were to take it a little further, I might say that this speaks to the state of the Brickworks, too. Solid, stable, long-standing, but soon to be changed and redeveloped into something brand new. We're hovering on that edge of tension, just like Batman here.

Hey, Kman, what time-zone are you in? The post time is three hours early, or else I shouldn't be at work yet...

The shot would be nice even without the hanging man with the blue silk.

i really love this and the last picture. the blue takes some focus away from the rest of it but i dont think it would be as apealing with out it. the best part is the tagging on the walls around him which is seemingly more intriguing in black and white then in real color.

I like this pose as well. One could easily write a 3 pg. essay on the social statement that this picture inspires. Kendall once again you have brought to the arena a triumph.

I'd love to see him facing the camera in this shot too. Is the Brickworks being turned into condos? Many old factories and warehouses here in Milwaukee are doing that.

I actually like the way you've brought the blue out in this shot. Nicely done.

Captivating photo, I really like the use of selective coloring.
