Hung Helmet

September 26, 2005

At Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, NY, the 'Welfare' buildings were the home of the workers' belongings while they worked in the steel mills. Andrew posted some shots from this building starting here. If anything marks the lonely state of these forgotten buildings, it's the personal effects left behind forever.

Update Nov 1 2005: A gallery of photos from this location is now available in the Bethlehem Steel photo gallery.

Not a lot of call for a helmet in the garden...now that someone has the time for gardening.

Damn you and your awesome resolution! You can really catch the scrapes that went on with that helmet. "If anything marks the lonely state of these forgotten buildings, it's the personal effects left behind forever." Im going to quote you on that. And that quote is memorable. Killer Pic Kendall

It just seems so final.

Yeah, that looks like it's seen some use. And abuse. Great shot.

I assume these baskets can be hoisted up into the air? They used to have baskets like that at the pit head of some of the coal mines over here I think.

Its a good closer. At the end of the day you take off your helmet and set it down. Its like what Gabriel said its final, the last thing you do. I truthfully didn't like it at first, but then I was like wait, it means closer. Great!
